After sixteen years of battles with the French, Samory Touré was captured in 1898 and exiled to Gabon where he died two years later. Le Petit Parisien, a French daily, published, on its January 15, 1899 cover, an illustration of Samory Touré as he was led to the city of Saint-Louis, Senegal, after his capture.
